5 Facts Painting Companies Don't Want You to Know

1. ADDING WATER TO PAINT

Some painting companies will dilute the paint with water to give it more coverage. Although at first glance the surface may seem fine but adding water to the paint can cause it to fade 200% faster than non diluted paint. Same goes for cheap paint, it has more water therefore typically needing extra coats or fading shortly after application.

  • Our Painters never add water to paint and always use high quality paints on our projects.

2. NO WORKERS COMPENSATION

A painting company might have liability insurance, but if they have helpers or employees on your property they need to be covered under workers compensation insurance. A lot of painters skip this requirement but a true professional will be covered. This is usually why some painters are less expensive and some are more.

  • At Brush Masters all of our employees, partners and helpers are fully insured with liability and workers' compensation insurance.

3. MARKING UP PAINT COSTS

Most painting contractors can get paint at over half the cost of a homeowners price per gallon. The client should be charged a little extra for hauling the paint but not 50% extra.

  • The paint cost right to the project proposal so everything is transparent and fair.

4. ONLY APPLYING 1 COAT

Usually the ceiling since it's always flat paint and the color never gets changed, its easy to get away with 1 coat instead of the recommended 2. This is a problem tho as the extra coat of paint helps prevent moisture and stains from being absorbed.

  • Brush Masters always applies 2 coats sometimes even 3 where needed, unless specified in the proposal.

5. SALES TAX ON MATERIAL

This may even be unknown by the contractor as well, but the client should not be charged sales tax for paint and materials. This is the contractors responsibility to pay not the clients. Look at your proposal and be sure paint and materials are listed under sales tax and not before.

  • We make sure our proposals are structured professionally and fair.

So be careful when hiring a painting company for your home or business, as there are a lot of, "chuck in a truck" painters out there that will give you a great deal but not great results.
